Like you mentioned (water weight), everyone likes the initial loss of weight at the start of a diet. Whether it comes from water or the fact that your metabolism hasn&#039;t yet reacted to the drop in calories, it gets dieters excited.

But as the weight loss slows down, they get discouraged.

Discouragement leads to depression leads to cheating leads to weight gain leads to another diet that promises instant weight loss.</description>

There is no point in following any diet for a month or 2, and then just going back to whatever eating habits you had before.  For weight loss to be permanent, you need to make changes to your eating and exercise habits for the long term.</description>
