Everyone seems to be getting into weight loss, healthy eating and exercise habits these days, and with that, there has been a surge in the availability of web applications designed to aid in diet and exercise, weight loss, goal setting and other life improvements. Some of these web applications and membership programs are significantly more useful than others. Here is a basic look at some of what is available to you, and the benefits associated with each.
Fit Day -
Fit Day is available at http://www.fitday.com and offers a free online account for tracking your weight, exercise and nutrition program. In addition to providing daily calorie counts, protein, carbohydrate and fat counts and weight loss and goal setting information, Fit Day also analyzes your information and gives you reports on your progress, including long term diet analysis. There are additional functions on the site, including the ability to journal every day so you can track your progress not only with the bare statistics, but also by tracking your feelings, moods, motivators and other vital information in your own personal, private journal. If you are looking for a basic web app to help you diet and lose weight, Fit Day is a good way to go. They also offer a software program that you can buy and use on your computer for even more functionality.
Spark People -
Spark People, available at http://www.sparkpeople.com, is quickly becoming more like a social media site than just a diet and weight loss site, because here not only will you find a nutrition tracker with meal plans, a fitness tracker, thousands of helpful articles and fitness plans, goal trackers, lesson plans on setting goals, losing weight, exercising more, but you will also find communities and forums for people with similar interests or goals, such as "Californians with 50+ lbs to lose" or "The knitters group", recipes, informational forums where questions can be answered, profiles with friends lists, personal messaging and a whole lot more. Not only can you lose weight and get healthy through the unique tools on this site, but you can also make friends, learn a ton, and have fun doing it. If you are looking for a diet and weight loss website with more meat to it, this is definitely the way to go.
Additional Options -
Most diet plans have their own online web application for diet and weight loss support, including Alli, Slimquick, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, eDiets, and many other programs. The downside to these websites is that while they offer useful tools for losing weight and exercising, the only program that they promote is their own. You are not getting a very objective look at your options by joining these websites, so they are only really useful if you are actually on the program that the website was designed for. If taking the Alli pill, joining the diet website would be useful. The same goes for weight watchers members that want to get more out of their membership. But if you're doing your own healthy diet and exercise plan, these sites will not have much to offer you.

Cool post. Especially these days, people are always on the go and in a hurry. These web apps give people a great way to make it a little simpler to keep track of everything, making losing weight and getting in shape that much easier, which is always a plus.
