Rather than dipping your veggies and your chips in a creamy dressing, what you may want to consider is making a healthy and nutritious dip out of vegetables, such as chunky tomato salsa, hummus, guacamole or a roasted red pepper dip. These dips will help you meet your daily vegetable quota or requirement without really making you feel like you're eating vegetables.
Tip #2 - Use fruit to add flair to other foods. For example, if you want to add some texture and some sweetness to your salads, try adding apples, tangerine slices and raisins. Apples are excellent at complementing pork dishes. Pineapple tends to work really well with dishes involving fish. Orange slices also tend to go very well with chicken dishes. Fruit is capable of adding flavor and flair to many different dishes to help you get your fruits in for the day.
Tip #3 - Don't be afraid to try out canned varieties of fruits and vegetables. Canned fruits, when you choose light syrup varieties, and canned vegetables when you choose low sodium varieties are both capable of being just as nutritious as their fresh counterparts. They are also generally easier on the schedule and lighter on the wallet, making enjoying them significantly easier.
Tip #4 - If you are still having difficulty getting in all of your fruits, try throwing them into a smoothie. When you make a smoothie will any combination of different fresh fruits or frozen fruits, yogurt, low fat milk, ice and 100% juice, you will have a tasty and enjoyable way for you to fit more fruits into your day.
Tip #5 - Try buying unripe produce as well as ripe produce. As an example, you can bring home both yellow bananas and green bananas. Eat the ripe bananas now, and then the rest will ripen later in the week and you will have fresh food all throughout the week without having to make numerous grocery store runs all throughout the week. This trick works great for all different kinds of fruits, and makes it possible for you to always have fresh and ripe fruit in your home no matter when you do your grocery shopping.
Tip #6 - Follow new and interesting recipes. Look for fun and interesting recipes for vegetables and fruits on hand so that they never really have a chance to become boring or bland for you. Vegetarian cook books are not just for vegetarians, but rather you can take advantage of them in order to learn how you can turn vegetables into main courses as well as side dishes.
