The Truth About Lemonade

lemonadeSipping a perfect portion of lemonade is capable of doing a whole lot more than simply cooling and relaxing you on a warm summer day. The truth is that lemonade may be capable of protecting your lungs against what is a truly serious condition known as adult asthma. People that do not eat enough fruit, or that avoid citrus fruit, are much more likely to develop adult asthma or to fall victim to gasping and wheezing symptoms of the disorder in comparison to the people that get enough or more citrus than they need. The Vitamin C present in these fruits is probably facilitating the effects of breathing easier.

Just because you have never had asthma before, that does not mean that your lucky streak is simply going to continue. Asthma is a disorder that is capable of starting at any time throughout your life. Asthma is caused by a number of different factors including the environment that you live in, where you live, and also your genetics. It has been found that if your parents possess allergies, then your risk of developing adult asthma is actually around 25% greater. Even if your particular situation is upping the numbers on asthma, you still do have the power to roll them back, possibly even taming the long term damage that can be caused by frequent asthma attacks.

Simply by adding all things citrus related to your shopping basket, including lemons, limes, oranges and grapefruit, you are going to be reducing the risk of respiratory problems like asthma regardless of what age you are or how active you happen to be. The Vitamin C in these food products is also capable of helping to keep your skin smoother and to fend off wrinkles as you age.

Here are some other things that you can do to ensure that you breathe better and for longer:

  • If you are smoking, now is the time for you to quit!
  • Make sure that you are doing everything in your power to control your exposures to waste from dust mites. Cover them with pillow casings that have a 1-micron pore size for the best results.
  • You also should be working on reducing the amount of pollution that you are encountering while outside. You can achieve this by keeping the windows on your car closed when you are in freeways or areas of high traffic as well as while you are going through tunnels or under bridges.
  • You can also improve significantly upon the air quality of your home by putting plants in your home. Some plants are better than others at increasing air quality in a space.
