Omega 3s and Weight Loss

Many celebrities that appear to be losing a lot of weight right now are attributing a good portion of their weight loss to adding more fish to their diet. The truth is, anyone that adds more of certain varieties of fish to their diet is going to benefit from a special kind of fatty acids known as omega 3 fatty acids. These essential fatty acids are required by your body, and yet your body does not synthesize them on its own.
Because of this, it is vitally important that you find ways to get these omega 3 fatty acids into your body so that you can benefit from them in every possible way. You may not have a celebrity dietician the way the movie stars do, but this does not mean that you cannot take advantage of the same powerhouse foods that are helping the stars achieve their goal weight in virtually no time at all. Fish is high in proteins and it is high in healthy unsaturated fats, while being rich in healthy omega 3s and low in saturated fats.
Research is indicating that an increase in the amount of fish that you consume that contribute to preventing heart disease, and it also may be able to improve your mental and emotional health and well being as well. There are a number of scientific studies that have shown that people eating fatty, oily varieties of fish that are high in omega 3 fatty acids on a regular basis are much less likely to end up suffering from heart attack, cardiac arrest or stroke. The omega 3 fatty acids that you find in fish have also proven themselves capable of preventing blood clots as well as protecting against an irregular heart beat. Experts are even saying that by consuming between one and two servings worth of fish in a week you can significantly cut your risk of death by heart attack by as much as one third!
The AHA, which stands for the American Heart Association has recommended that if you eat fish varieties that are high in omega 3 fatty acids twice a week, you will benefit your heart and improve your overall health. Some of the fatty fish varieties that you should be aiming to consume include lake trout, sardines, herring, mackerel, tuna and salmon. They are all excellent sources for omega 3s. There are a number of other sources for omega 3 fatty acids as well, including canola oil, walnuts, flaxseed and soybeans, and olive oil is also proving to be a useful source. You should be looking for foods that contain DHA above all else, as this is the most important omega 3 fatty acid, the one that contributes to overall health and wellness and healthy weight loss as well.
