Most people are not getting enough fruits and vegetables, despite the fact that there is such a large variety to choose from. Here are some great tips for how you can get pack more healthy fruits and vegetables into your life for a number of added health benefits that will help you loose weight and improve your overall health.
Tip #7 - Eat the fruits and vegetables of the season. During the right season, fruits and vegetables tend to be much cheaper, much more easily obtained and even more nutritious. Vegetables and fruits also tend to taste a lot better when you buy them in season too because they are fresh, ripe and picked at the peak of freshness for their perfect taste.
Tip #8 - If you have produce that looks like it is about to go bad, do not simply throw it away. If you have produce that is about to go bad, you can freeze it instead. Frozen fruits and vegetables can be thawed out and used later in stir fry, smoothies, soups and batters and you don't have to throw them out. Getting the most out of all of the produce that you buy is a great way to squeeze more fruits and vegetables into your diet.
Tip #9 - Keep your fruits and vegetables in sight. You can do this by storing your fruits and your vegetables in your fridge on the top shelf, or on the table or the kitchen countertop in a colorful and enticing arrangement. When you see your fruits and vegetables more often, you are going to end up eating them much more often as well.
Tip #10 - Try taking advantage of the salad bar in the grocery store that you frequent. These grocery store salad bars tend to provide you with all kinds of different pre-cut varieties of vegetables, fruits and even beans. You can buy these fruits and vegetables and eat them as simple snacks, or you can throw them all together into a salad with a lot less prep time involved.
Tip #11 - Create your own fresh yogurt. What you can do is buy plain yogurt from the store, which is the healthiest variety, and add a heaping serving of your favorite types of fruits such as peaches or berries in order to boost your intake of fruit for the take. The combinations of different fruits that you can add are virtually endless.
Tip #12 - Add flavor as well as nutrition to your breakfast by cooking an omelet with plenty of vegetables. You can add carrots, potatoes, onions, broccoli, red peppers and many other vegetables to create a breakfast that is nutritionally complete and much more colorful. When you are making recipes that are fun, colorful and enticing, it makes it a lot easier for you to enjoy the vegetables that you are eating.
