Don’t Wait to Get Fit

Have you ever gone to the doctor’s office, dreading the results? If you have a lifetime of bad eating habits and a lack of exercise, you are at risk for many different diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. Yet, many of us wait for that dreadful news before we make that change. Why put your body at risk when you don’t have to. There are many reasons why you shouldn’t wait to get fit, and it’s a lot easier than you think.

1. Take a look at your family history.

This is usually great motivation for many people. Whether you had relatives that died young from heart problems, or there is a history of diabetes, this can be your impetus to get healthy now, before you go down that same road. Start by planning out a small exercise program that you can easily stick to that will get your heart going and start burning up excess fat. It doesn’t have to be a major lifestyle change, but every little bit will help.

2. Look at the things you cannot do now.

Think of what your health and weight are preventing you from doing right now. Now, imagine yourself five years from now. Will your mobility decrease even further? Will it become impossible to walk up a flight of stairs? These health problems do not have to be inevitable, and you have the power to change that future by making those changes now. Getting fit is a journey that will last you throughout your life, but that journey of a thousand steps can start right now.

3. Learn more about weight related health problems.

Often, this is a great impetus for many people that find it difficult to take that step towards getting fit. Scaring yourself thin may not be the best motivation, but for some people, it will take that. Instead of waiting for your doctor to do it for you, start reading about what your future may look like today, and start taking the necessary steps to prevent it.

4. It’s a game of numbers.

Let’s say that you gain on average five pounds a year. Now, look at yourself in ten years, with fifty extra pounds. Do you like the way you look? Do you like the way you are going to feel? Chances are, the answer will be no. Again, these changes do not have to be inevitable. By facing them head on right now, you have the power to map your own future, a future that is a lot brighter.

Getting fit is the best step you will ever take, but it can also be one of the hardest. You know yourself better than anyone and you know what it takes to get motivated. Don’t put this off until you get that bad news from the doctor. Start your exercise program today and see what your new future will hold for you. You’ll be glad that you found that motivation.
