Add Weight Loss and Fitness Bloggers to your Website
Apparently this has ability has been built into wordpress for quite some time but a friend of mine recently pointed up that it can be done (pfblogs popular posts added to sidebar.) Here is the wordpress codex for this feature: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/fetch_rss.
To add the latest weight loss health and fitness posts to my sidebar I added the following to my theme…
<h3>Latest Weight Loss and Fitness Posts</h3>
<?php // Get RSS Feed(s)
include_once(ABSPATH . WPINC . ‘/rss.php’);
$rss = fetch_rss(‘http://www.fitbloggers.com/feed’);
$maxitems = 10;
$items = array_slice($rss->items, 0, $maxitems);
?>
<ul>
<?php if (empty($items)) echo ‘<li>No items</li>’;
else
foreach ( $items as $item ) : ?>
<li><a href=’<?php echo $item[‘link’]; ?>‘
title=’<?php echo $item[‘title’]; ?>‘>
<?php echo $item[‘title’]; ?>
</a> (<?php echo $item[‘dc’][‘creator’]; ?>)</li>
<?php endforeach; ?>
</ul>
3 lbs in 7 days — Weigh In #2
After an incredible 22lbs in the first 10 days, my progress this week seems pedestrian. My weigh in was not with with Dr Sean Bourke as he was on vacation… Instead I meet another of the doctors of Jumpstart Medicine Dr Sooji Rugh.
Here is a graph of my weight loss (if you are reading this in the future this graph will have updated for future weigh ins as well)… Clicking the image will open to a larger image.

While my progress slowed it was still 3 lbs in a week… I expect that my weightloss slowed down because after the 1st week I was a little less careful about portion control and a little less diligent about getting exercise. I also cheated on one day.
I only achieved 30% of the weeks weight loss goal (mine not the doctors) and so I will set the goal again this week at 10 pounds. My take away is that if I want to achieve the weight loss as quickly as safely possible I need to stick to the diet and exercise more. This week I will attempt to exercise every day and not cheat on the diet at all.
At the weigh in the doctor talked about reading the labels on food. Not counting fiber carbohydrates and looking for lean protein. She also talked about how adding fiber to food (yogurt for example) while not reducing the countable carbohydrate count, will actually reduce the glycemic index of the food.
B Vitamins Part of Weightloss — B12 and B6
As part of my weightloss plan one of the suggestions is to have a vitamin B12 injection and potentially take a B6 supplement. For the time being I have chosen not to get the additional injection, but instead am taking a 500 mcg B12 supplement and a 100 mg B6 supplement. Here is what my doctor says about vitamin B12 and vitamin B6.
Vitamin B12 is also called a Cobalamine and is one of the eight water-soluble B vitamins. All of these B vitamins help the body in converting carbohydrates into glucose or sugar, which is burned in order to produce energy for proper body function. These are often referred to as B complex vitamins, and are essential for the breakdown of fats and proteins. They help maintain muscle tone, protect the mucus lining in the digestive tract and mouth, and promote upkeep of nervous system and the organs like the liver, skin, hair, and eyes. Cobalamine is an excellent anti-stress vitamin since it is believed to enhance the health functioning of the immune system and improve the body’s ability to fight stressful conditions.
B12 injections have been found to frequently improve energy levels and general well-being. They also support thyroid function to regulate energy levels. B12 also reduces water retention owing to its diuretic attributes.
Vitamin B6, also called pyridoxine, is another of the eight water-soluble B vitamins. Pyridoxine can help with weight loss through a stimulating effect of the thyroid. This can be especially helpful for hormone balance in women when water retention is an issue. Lastly, patients seem to find the pyridoxine alleviates cravings consistently.
