			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.weightladder.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/weigh.jpg" class="left" alt="weigh" />While many of us would like to believe that we were meant to be naturally heavy, the fact is that each one of us does have an ideal weight. Finding it is never easy, and you can spend your whole life trying to beat the scale. Before you beat yourself up for one more day, it is vital to find out how much you should weigh.</p>
<p>This will vary based on many different factors. We do not recommend using BMI as your sole guide to your optimum weight since it does not account for frame size or muscle mass. You can use this as a clue, but do not rely completely on your BMI to determine how much you should weigh.</p>
<p>To discover your optimum weight, let’s talk a little about the three main body types: <a href="http://www.getfitslowly.com/2007/12/21/im-not-fat-just-big-boned/">endomorph, ectomorph and mesomorph</a><strong>.</strong></p>
<p>An <strong>endomorph</strong> is typically a little heavier by nature. They have softer curves and less definition throughout their body. It is very easy for an endomorph to gain weight.</p>
<p>An <strong>ectomorph</strong> is the polar opposite. They are usually quite slight, bony and have difficulty gaining weight.</p>
<p>A <strong>mesomorph</strong> has defined muscles and will typically have a very strong jaw and facial features. Even their hands may be muscled and their bones are typically large and well defined.</p>
<p>Finding your type may be a little difficult, but most of us are aware enough of our bodies to make a good guess. You can also ask your doctor for their opinion on what type you are. Next, let’s move to frame size. A person with a small frame should be able to wrap their hand around the bone of their wrist and have some overlap going on. A person with a moderate frame will have their fingers meet. A person with a large frame will have space in between their fingers.</p>
<p>Now, taking all of these considerations into mind, let’s talk about muscle mass. If you are naturally athletic, you’re going to have more muscle and as such, you’re going to weigh a little bit more. Finding your desired weight may be more about settling on a range of body fat percentage. This focuses more on a healthy weight for this body type, and keeps the range of body fat in the right zone.</p>
<p>A person with a medium frame will have the toughest time finding the right weight. For a clue, you can take the range of weight from your BMI result, and go for the middle numbers. Body fat percentage is also important here as well, and should be in a healthy range. If you have a low body fat percentage, but you’re still not where you think you should be, you may actually already be at your ideal weight.</p>
<p>A small framed person can usually use the same sliding scale, but this time, their ideal weight may be found at the bottom end of the BMI scale. Slight people may actually need to carry a little more body fat and weight to avoid osteoporosis and other health issues. If you are already underweight, you may need to actually gain weight to reach the right range.</p>
<p>Instead of focusing on numbers, you’ve got to look at overall health, the right weight range for your body type and the percentage of body fat you’re carrying. In there, you will find your ideal weight.</p>

Little ones can adopt the same eating habits that their parents exhibit. Parents and child care providers alike are the first role models that children will ever encounter when it comes to healthy eating. Children make awesome observers, so when they see what is happening in the kitchen, they can create a complete dialogue on the same things that are happening in the kitchen, but in their own little world with their invisible friends, for example. In several studies relating to the eating patterns that children follow, researchers found that preferences for certain foods and other eating habits were traced to the patterns and the preferences that their parents and other adult role models exhibited.</p>
<p>As kids move from bottles to solid foods, they begin to develop their eating habits, and these are the habits that follow them throughout their lives. Healthy eating habits that begin at an early age will continue to follow these children through to adulthood. Since it is documented that eating healthfully can prevent illness, it is vital that the role models for these children begin to offer apples, carrots and other healthy treats in place of sugar laden treats like candy and chocolate. Little ones are going to eat the things that they see their parents eating, so it is vital that you act accordingly, exhibiting healthy eating habits so that your children may follow along.</p>
<p>Parents are not always aware of the fact that they are such a major influence on their children and what they learn to eat. Research has shown that the attitude about food that children develop is nearly as genetic as their eye color, which can put a lot of stress on the parents. But if you understand the true implications behind a scientific study like this, then you will be able to raise healthier and happier children in the long run. A healthier parent means healthier children, hands down.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.getfitslowly.com/2008/09/15/how-to-raise-healthy-kids-my-parenting-dilemma/">Teaching your children healthy eating habits</a> is not as difficult as you might imagine. It begins by you exhibiting healthy eating habits of your own, which is something that your children can pick up on. As your children watch you eat healthfully, they will want to do the same. Keep unhealthy foods out of the house, and your children will never pick up on eating these foods. Eating bad food is a habit just as eating good food is a habit, so replace bad dietary choices with healthy choices and your children will learn how to be healthy and smart in their food choices. As your children get old enough to make their own choices, teach them about nutritional labels and how to determine which foods are the best to eat and which are not. You will never have complete control over your child's eating habits, especially as he or she ages, but the more you teach and influence while they are young, the more lasting influence you will have in the future when it truly matters.</p>

However, there is such a thing as good fat, and if you’re trying to lose weight, it is important to make sure you are getting the right balance of this in your diet. Let’s take a look at the different kinds of fat and learn what you need, and what you don’t need.</p>
<p>We’ll break it down into healthy and unhealthy to make it easier to understand. Make sure that you are reading labels to determine what you are actually eating. In there lies the key to your successful weight loss and getting healthier.</p>
<h3><strong>Healthy Fats</strong></h3>
<p>Omega 3 Fatty Acids – These are the fats that are found in fish, some nuts and some oils. This is a fat that your body absolutely needs and it is actually very good for you. Omega 3’s reduce the risk of heart disease and help you stay healthy. If you’re eating fish, walnuts or using flax oil, don’t let the amount of fat grams scare you off – you actually need those.</p>
<p>Monounsaturated Fats – These are often found in olive oil, avocados and most nuts. Once again, they lower your risk for heart disease, bring up the levels of good cholesterol and lower the bad levels. Even peanut and canola oils are a good course of this essential fat.</p>
<p>Polyunsaturated Fats – This is mainly the type of fat that you’ll find in soy oils, corn oils and other vegetable oils. They carry the same benefits as the fats mentioned above.</p>

You’ll find cholesterol in all types of meat, but it is higher in red meat than in chicken. Eggs are one of the worst offenders but milk and dairy products are also very high in cholesterol. Eating a lot of these foods is a great way to clog up your arteries.</p>
<p>Saturated Fats – Once again, this is a fat found in animal products. It’s usually visible and will have a nasty, waxy appearance. If you’re eating these foods, cut off the visible fat. If you’re drinking milk, buy skim to reduce the overall amount of saturated fats in your diet.</p>
<p>Trans Fats – The most evil of all fats and the most dangerous. This is found in foods that contain modified vegetable oil. By forcing hydrogen through the oil, (often called hydrogenation) the oil is rendered more solid and will have a longer shelf life. It will also last a lot longer in your arteries! You’ll find this in most snacks, French fries and donuts. Limit your intake of this fat as much as possible as it is very deadly.</p>
<p>By eating the right fats, you can end up losing weight and getting healthier. Not all fat is bad, but it isn’t all good either. The key is knowing the difference.</p>

<h3>Essential Tip #9 - You should always make sure that you are maintaining a mental outlook that is positive and optimistic at all times.</h3>
<p>There is definitely a connection that exists between living healthfully and living well, and having an outlook on life that is positive, cheerful and optimistic. The more positive that you are about your life, even during the hard times, the more successful you will be in achieving good health and wellness in other areas of your life as well. Having a positive outlook may not always seem possible, but if you can force yourself to find positive things in your life, then you can influence your existence in a positive way and ward off bad feelings.</p>
<p>Here is a thought worth keeping with you: It is really hard for you to be unhappy when you are smiling, singing, laughing or doing something that you love. If you're feeling unhappy, force a smile. It may not be pleasant at first - But give it a minute - The warm feelings will kick in. </p>
<h3>Essential Tip #10 - While you cannot choose your parents, something that you can do is to counteract the genes that were handed to you.</h3>
<p>The link that you find between good health and genetics is one that is quite powerful and that simply cannot be denied no matter how we would like to try. Just because one of your parents or even both of your parents happened to have poor health or to die prematurely, that does not mean that there aren't steps that you can take in order to counteract the genes that were handed down to you. If you practice good health and wellness, then there is no reason why you cannot outlive your parents and other family members. </p>
<p>In fact, if you have a family member with a genetic condition or some other health issues, you should take it as a lesson to improve your health so that you do not fall prey to the same health issues. There is nothing set in stone that states that you are destined to follow the same path in health and wellness as your family - So let this be an opportunity for you to take an entirely new path. It really does not take much to change your health - You simply have to be willing to live consciously of your health and your personal wellbeing so that you can constantly take steps to improve those things in your life.</p>

When you make that commitment to get healthy, many things in your life and in your body will be changing. Don't get hung up on inches or pounds, as these may not be the right indicators for how well you are doing. Weight loss, when done properly, takes time, but you'll be getting several steps closer to success the longer you keep it up. Let's take a look at a few ways that you can measure your success.</p>
<h3><strong>1. The Way You Feel. </strong></h3>
<p>The first few days or even weeks of <a href="http://www.weightladder.com/2008/08/07/easy-diet-changes/">a diet can be tough</a>, but pretty soon you should start to notice that you feel better. You'll be more energized thanks to your metabolism which is now speeding up. You'll feel less tired, thanks to the endorphins that are being released into your bloodstream. You'll also feel better knowing that you're sticking to your diet and that you will be a success!</p>
<h3><strong>2. Little Victories Mean a Lot. </strong></h3>
<p>The first time you walk up a flight of stairs and realize that you aren't gasping for breath. When you play with your kids for thirty minutes and you don't feel exhausted. It's these little things that make your diet worth the while. You're getting healthier, and it's starting to show. What used to make you gasp, now makes you smile. What you thought you couldn't do - you can!</p>
<h3><strong>3. Your tastes start to change.</strong></h3>
<p>Steamed veggies and fish tasting good? You bet - after a few weeks of eating healthy, your taste buds are going to start to change. The old standbys may even become quite nasty if you happen to fall off the diet wagon. The more you stay away from processed and sugary foods, the better your chances are of developing a new palate that is much healthier. It may take a bit, and you may be tempted to cheat along the way, but if you can stick it out, you'll find that healthy foods actually taste better than junk foods.</p>
<h3><strong>4. You'll look better.</strong></h3>
<p>This is an obvious one, but it really does help measure your progress. The first time someone says, "Have you lost weight?" or the first time you catch a glimpse of yourself in a window and think "Gee, I have lost weight." These moments are priceless and make the effort you're going through worthwhile. When you reach the point of having to get a whole new wardrobe, or your old friends may not recognize you right off the bet, you'll know you've made big progress.</p>
<p>We're not saying burn the measuring tape and throw out the scale. These are useful tools. However, they should not be your only method of measuring success. The small victories lead to bigger victories and weight loss is really about getting healthier and feeling better.</p>
