Building Your Own Gym At Home pt 3
January 16th, 2012 | exercise, gym, Weight Loss Journal
Why spend all that money on a gym membership when you end up making up excuses not to go every week? Why not build your own home gym where you can work out comfortably in your own home? Here is part three of a three part guide to building your own gym at home.
Equipment for your Home Gym
The type of equipment that you choose is completely up to you. You can choose primarily strength training equipment or you can choose a mix of cardio and strength training depending on what your unique needs are for getting healthy, losing weight, building muscle and so on. Here are some of the things that you can add to your home gym:
Cardio Machines - There are a myriad of different cardio machines for you to choose from if cardio is one of your primary workout goals. You can add a treadmill, elliptical, stair climber, recumbent exercise bike, upright exercise bike, rowing machine, and all the fun little gadget machines that have come out through the years such as the Gazelle for example if you so choose.
Bench - If you are planning on doing the bench press, then you are going to need a bench. This is also going to come in handy when it comes to doing dumbbell workouts as it will help to guarantee proper form. Having a bench in your home gym is a good idea, and you are bound to find plenty of ways to use it.
Weights - There are free weights like dumbbells, barbells, plate weights and all kinds of other weight options to choose from. If you want to build muscle while losing weight and getting healthy, then you definitely need to look at the weights options that you have.
Other Workout Equipment - Kettle balls, yoga mats, heavy bags and boxing equipment, pilates gear, and the list goes on. If you are interested in trying out different workouts, then it would be a good idea for you to see what these workout options have in store for you.
Experiment, try different things, and ultimately add the supplies to your gym that you really want to get the most out of. After all, if you are not getting the most out of the equipment that you stock your home gym with, then there really is no reason for you to have made the investment in the first place, right? Make sure that you choose machines and workout gear that you are actually interested in using, or otherwise you are just wasting your time and money.

Something that people tend to forget, when installing a ‘home gym’ , is that there are so many materials around the house that can be used as exercise equipment. For example – if you have stairs in your house, a few focused minutes spent going up and down the stairs will certainly raise your heart rate, and really begin to work the muscles in your legs. Like you say, the thing to remember about a home gym is the fact that you won’t be interested in EVERY type of exercise, so you don’t need to waste money on equipment that will sit there gathering dust. Let the pay-per-week gyms do that, so you don’t have to!
