22 Tips for Weight Loss, pt 5

weightloss5Here is a quick no nonsense guide to what you can to in order to get healthy and lose weight. This is part 5 in a 5 part series.

18 - If your measurement tool is not doing right by you, upgrade. Scale up. If your scale is an analog, switch to a digital. Find a scale that is giving you the information that you are actually looking for, such as one of the Tanita models that tells you your body weight, your BMI, your calorie intake and other necessary information. Make sure that you are using your scale on a hard surface because carpet foundations do not usually create the most accurate measurements when it comes to weighing yourself.

19 - Aim to lose a single pound per week. If you are not losing one pound every week, you're either done losing weight or you've stalled and need to change things up. You may need to push yourself harder than before or you may need to take a break and then try again in a couple of weeks when your metabolism is ready for another go. If you are losing more than a single pound a week, enjoy it while it lasts as you are doing better than many people. Expecting to lose more than 2-3 lbs a week is crazy, though, so don't bother setting these insane goals for yourself.

20 - Do not overdo yourself. If you change one thing in your lifestyle, you will see results, but don't allow it to be overdone. Exercise for an extra hour every day, until you're losing less weight than when you started, then add something new. Change things up slowly but surely, only making additions to your regimen when they're needed, and that way you will make sure that you are not overdoing or overwhelming yourself in the process. Overwhelming yourself may cause your entire weight loss endeavor to backfire in your face, after all.

21 - Know your daily limit for calories. Based on your weight and your activity level, there is a number of calories that you should be consuming every day. For some people, this is 2,000, but not for everyone. Find out what your daily calorie limit is and stick to it. This way, you can better keep track of what is going in and how many calories you are burning. The best weight loss comes as a balance between cutting calories and burning calories through exercise.

22 - Walk as often as you can. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, park further from the door at work than normal, and take the long way home if you're walking. The more you walk, the more calories you will end up burning as a result, and walking can burn a surprising number of calories if you really put your mind to it. Keep this in mind next time you're deciding whether to drive to work or walk.
